Getting Started
Which device are you setting up?
- AirU+ / AirU Pro (Wi-Fi)
- AirU Pro (LTE)
- AirU Pro (PoE)
Device Setup:
- Download the AirView App.
- Sign in or create an account in the app.
- Click the + icon in the monitors tab to add an AirU.
- Follow the process in the app.
- Once connected, the app will prompt you to set up a nickname for the selected device.
- The red led inside the AirU+ will turn off once connected.
- Congrats! Your AirU is set up and ready to monitor the air.
You can see your AirU’s data on the AirView map and dashboard once connected.
Mounting your device:
- Check Wi-Fi Signal: Use your mobile device to check the Wi-Fi signal strength at your desired location. Ensure you have at least two bars for the sensor to work properly.
- Placement height: We suggest positioning the AirU at breathing height or above for best data results.
- Mounting Options: There are three main options when it comes to correctly mounting your AirU.
- Mount the AirU using the provided mounting adapters.
- Hang the AirU using zip ties or similar methods.
- Place on a flat surface with the bottom exposed. Covering the bottom may prevent the AirU from properly collecting data. We recommend securing the sensor to a surface.
- Sheltered Location: Opt for a sheltered spot, such as under an eave. The AirU housing is weatherproof, but not completely waterproof.

Installation & Mounting:
- Check LTE Signal: Use your mobile device to check the LTE signal strength at your desired location. Ensure you have connection.
- Placement height: We suggest positioning the AirU at breathing height or above for best data results.
- Mounting the AirU Pro:
- Use the two plastic brackets to securely mount the device.
- Ensure brackets are not overstressed to prevent damage.
- Mount the AirU Pro upright with the logo at the top and openings at the bottom.
- Flat Surface Placement:
- Place the device on its backside on a flat surface, ensuring the bottom ports stay clear.

Setting Up AirU Pro PoE:
Unboxing:
Ensure you have the following items:
- AirU Pro PoE Device
- 5V, 3A USB-C power supply
- RJ-45 Ethernet Cable (if using PoE)
- Mounting accessories (optional)
Powering the AirU:
The AirU Pro PoE can be powered using:
- USB-C: Connect the provided USB-C power supply to the device.
- PoE: Connect the device to a PoE-compatible ethernet cable and switch/injector.
Note: if both power sources are connected, the device defaults to USB-C.
Mounting the AirU:
Proper mounting ensures accurate data collection and reliable operation for both Wi-Fi and PoE devices. Follow the steps below to select an appropriate location and mount your AirU.
- Wi-Fi Signal Check (for Wi-Fi mode only)
- Use your mobile device to check the Wi-Fi signal strength at your desired mounting location.
- Ensure the signal strength shows at least two bars for the AirU to function correctly.
Mounting Options:
You have several options for mounting the AirU:
- Using Mounting Adapters: Use provided mounting adapters to secure the AirU to a wall, post, or other structure.
- Hanging the Device: Use zip-ties, hooks, or similar methods to securely hang the AirU monitor.
- Placing on a Flat Surface: Place the AirU on a flat surface with the bottom exposed. Avoid covering the bottom, as this blocks the airflow and prevents accurate data. We recommend securing the sensor to the surface to prevent it from tipping or moving.
Outdoor placement tips:
Choose a sheltered location, such as under an eave or overhang, to protect the device from direct rain or excessive moisture.
While the AirU housing is weatherproof, it’s not fully waterproof.
PoE Requirements:
There are two options for powering the AirU PoE: USB-C or PoE. Only one is required. It is safe to supply the device with both simultaneously, as USB-C will be selected by default if present.
USB-C Requirements:
Please use 5V, 3A power supply provided with the AirU Pro device.
PoE Requirements:
The PoE Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) must comply with the following:
- Power Input: IEEE 802.3af (PoE, Class 0) PoE switch or injector.
- 15.4W Maximum power available at PSE.
- Compatibility Type:
- Type A: Power on data pairs (pins 1/2, 3/6)
- Type B: Power on spare pairs (pins 4/5, 7/8)
Establishing Connection
When powered and connected to a compatible Ethernet interface, the AirU will establish a network connection automatically and turn off the red LED when it has done so; this typically occurs within a few seconds of the AirU powering on or having an Ethernet cable plugged in.
If the red LED remains on, the network connection has yet to be established. The connection expects either an open network or to be white-listed on the local network, so the local network’s router likely needs further configuration. Contact your network administrator to get the device white-listed. If further support is needed, contact TELLUS technical support at support@tellusensors.com.
