Over the past nine months, the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) has partnered with TELLUS to expand air quality monitoring across the Kansas City metropolitan area. Together with Karen Clawson, AICP, and Doug Norsby, MARC has launched the Air Quality Sensor Program to provide communities, policymakers, and researchers with reliable, real-time data. Through this initiative, more than two dozen TELLUS Air Quality Sensors have been deployed throughout the region. These monitors deliver accurate, hyperlocal data on pollutants and particulate matter, empowering stakeholders to make informed decisions about public health, transportation planning, and environmental policy. In addition to strengthening regional air quality data, this project also highlights the value of collaboration. By combining advanced monitoring technology with expertise in GIS visualization, data analysis, and community engagement, the program ensures that air quality information is both accessible and actionable. The Kansas City project is part of a larger movement to bring cost-effective, high-quality air monitoring to communities nationwide. At TELLUS, we believe that reliable data is the first step toward meaningful change by helping cities improve air quality, protect public health, and build resilient communities.
